East Metro Youth Services (EMYS) Unveils New Universal Washrooms for Clients
– EMYS, The Aldgate Group partner to create inclusive facilities for trans community, families –
TORONTO – Oct. 8, 2015 – East Metro Youth Services (EMYS), an adolescent mental health and addictions centre, today unveiled new universal, accessible family washrooms at its Scarborough, Ont.-based headquarters.
Working with The Aldgate Group management team at 1200 Markham Road, EMYS now offers universal washroom facilities designed specifically for trans clients, clients with disabilities, and mothers and fathers who want access to gender-neutral family rooms with change stations.
“EMYS believes that every client should be accommodated in a way that respects their dignity, and ensures their comfort and safety. EMYS is a safe and inclusive space for trans, gender variant and LGBTQ2 clients, as well as families and clients with disabilities,” said Claire Fainer, Executive Director, East Metro Youth Services (EMYS). “The unveiling of the universal washroom at our 1200 Markham Road facility is another step toward ensuring we are proving an inclusive, welcoming environment for our clients.”

EMYS will be honouring The Aldgate Group with its annual Friend of EMYS award at their Annual General Meeting tonight at the Scarboro Golf and Country Club. The annual award honours a donor or organization that has provided significant help and support to EMYS during its fiscal year.
The new universal washrooms are located on the third floor of 1200 Markham Road.
